Understand before proposing.
I start with the people, the context and what already exists. Tools come after.

Data, transformation and building my own tools
I'm Erik Garcés. Since 2006 I have worked between business and technology: I turn information into decisions, tools and ways of working that teams can sustain.
My path runs through Mexico, Spain, France and Luxembourg. Today I bring it together at HME84, my independent studio in Mexico City, where I diagnose, design and build with AI agents under my direction.
I care about systems that work. And about the people who live with them.
Before proposing, understand what problem actually exists.
Make sense of what is scattered and agree on what matters.
Only when there is a clear reason to do so.
I start by understanding the context. A recommendation needs to explain what I observed, what I propose and what is still to be confirmed. What gets built is defined from that reading and from the conditions of the project.
I start with the people, the context and what already exists. Tools come after.
Good design does not end at the mockup. It has to sustain conversation, decisions, continuity and maintenance.
I direct the work of the AI agents and answer for the decisions and the result. Review is part of building.
Since 2006 I worked with data in large organizations in Mexico, Spain, France and Luxembourg: banking, consumer goods and consulting. That is where the data governance, BI and adoption work comes from.

This is my personal experience. Those organizations are not HME84 clients.
HME84 brings together what I have learned working with data and teams, with the freedom to build tools of my own. I start by listening, make explicit what is still unknown, and decide what is worth building. AI extends what I can do; the responsibility remains mine.
The scale changes. The work stays the same: connecting information, decisions and people. These are some examples from my career and from what I build today.

While assigned to the European Investment Bank, I designed the data governance and MDM blueprint: standards, operating model and roadmap.
Professional experience prior to HME84. These organizations are not presented as clients of the studio.
The studio lets me take an idea from the problem all the way to a tool of my own. The agents support the execution; direction and responsibility are mine.
Four apps I built and use in my day-to-day.
Care for people and animals.
iPhone, iPad and Mac.
A voice conversation companion.
Local document search with citations.
Finding duplicate photos on macOS.
I like bringing people together, cooking, listening to music and writing. I have lived in different countries; in each place there were also friendships, dinners and fresh starts.
Hope and Max are my family. They are part of how I think about my home, my trips and my decisions. That is why they are here, in the line drawing that accompanies this page.
Curiosity also leads me to create stories: a conversation that began with a bedtime story ended up becoming a novel.
Erik / TavoHearing the whole story before deciding what it means.
Staying curious and being able to change my mind.
Making technology give time back for living.
I am open to leading data, analytics and AI programmes, and to working with teams that want a clear diagnosis before investing in tools. If you recognise something of your problem in this path, let's talk.
